HYDRO JETTING — SCRUB THE PIPE, NOT JUST PUNCH A HOLE

A drain snake punches a hole through the middle of a clog so water starts moving again. A hydro jet scrubs the entire inside wall of the pipe clean. Different tools, different results. If your kitchen line in Westridge keeps clogging every six months, a snake isn't solving it — the grease layer coating the pipe wall is still there narrowing the line, and a fresh clog is forming the day we leave. Jetting strips the grease layer off completely, and the line stays clear for 2-5 years.

A hydro jetter is essentially a pressure washer designed for the inside of a pipe. A high-pressure hose with a specialized nozzle is fed down the cleanout. The nozzle shoots water forward to break up the blockage and rearward to pull the hose deeper while blasting the pipe wall clean as it moves. Residential jetters run 3,500-4,000 PSI at 4-8 gallons per minute. Our commercial rigs push 4,000-5,000 PSI at 18+ GPM for restaurant grease traps and 4-inch+ mains.

When hydro jetting is the right call in West Jordan

1. Recurring kitchen clogs — grease coats the pipe wall and no cable clears it fully
2. Cast iron mains in older Copperton, Westridge, and 7800 South homes built 1950-1975 — scale buildup (tuberculation) narrows the pipe by 30-50% over decades
3. Small root intrusion — roots under 1/4 inch get sheared off with a root-cutting nozzle; bigger root mats need trenchless repair
4. Restaurant and commercial lines — Jordan Landing kitchens, Mountain View Village retail, apartment buildings — anywhere grease or soap scum builds up fast
5. Pre-inspection prep — we want a clean pipe before running a camera so the lens can actually see the wall
6. Post-jet maintenance schedule — once we jet a commercial line, we usually set a quarterly or semi-annual cycle to keep it that way

When hydro jetting is the wrong call

We'll tell you. Jetting a pipe with a structural crack, a belly, or a collapsed section just makes the problem worse — you're blasting water at a damaged wall and potentially washing dirt into a widening gap. If the camera scope shows structural damage, we stop and price a trenchless repair or main lining instead of jetting a pipe that needs replacing.

What's different in West Jordan

Older subdivisions east of Bangerter (Copperton, eastside Westridge, 7800 South corridor) often have original cast iron mains from the 1950s-1970s. Tuberculation builds up over decades and snake-only service is a losing battle on those pipes — you'll be back every six months. Hydro jetting once, then maintaining annually, is the smart play. Newer Daybreak-adjacent and Oquirrh Lakes builds have PVC mains in good shape and rarely need jetting unless there's a specific commercial-style buildup issue.

Restaurants in Jordan Landing and the Bangerter retail strip are on quarterly grease-line jet schedules with most of our commercial accounts. Apartment buildings and HOAs generally do annual main jets to prevent the embarrassment-level backups that affect multiple tenants at once.
