SALT LAKE CITY EXCAVATION — OLD HOMES, OLD PIPE, IN-HOUSE CREWS

Clay sewer mains under century-old elms, galvanized water services from 1928, the rare lead service line in the Avenues — SLC excavation isn't generic. Our shop is on 300 N, our crews work pre-1950 homes daily, and we don't subcontract a single dig.

Overview

Why SLC excavation is different — and how we handle it

Salt Lake City has the oldest housing stock in our service area. The Avenues, Capitol Hill, Marmalade, Sugar House, Liberty Wells, Yalecrest, Harvard-Yale, 9th & 9th — most of these neighborhoods have homes built between 1890 and 1940, plumbed with whatever was code at the time. That means clay sewer mains with oakum-packed joints, galvanized steel water services, cast iron drains, and — more often than people expect — the occasional lead service line still running from the curb stop to the basement of a 1910s Avenues home. Excavation here is a different job than excavation in a 2008 South Jordan subdivision, and pretending otherwise is how homeowners end up with a $4,000 surprise after the trench is already open.

Our shop is at 244 W 300 N, two blocks off North Temple. That puts a crew within 10-15 minutes of every SLC neighborhood we work, and most of our excavation techs have spent more time in pre-1950 homes than anywhere else. We know which Avenues blocks have shared driveways that complicate trench access. We know Capitol Hill's grades make basement sewers prone to belly issues. We know the west-side neighborhoods near the Jordan River sit on a higher water table than the east bench. None of that is in a brochure — it's job experience.

The work we do here

  • Sewer line replacement — clay-to-PVC swaps under elm and maple roots, cast iron removal in basements, Orangeburg replacement in 1950s-built post-war SLC fringe blocks
  • Main water line replacement — galvanized-to-HDPE on pre-1970 homes, copper pinhole replacements on 1980s installs, the occasional lead service line replacement (still rare, but flagged)
  • Trenchless pipe bursting — when the line runs under a stamped driveway, a 60-year-old maple, or a brick walkway you don't want to lose
  • Sewer ejector pump installs — Avenues and Sugar House basement bathroom additions are constant work
  • Drainage and French drains — Capitol Hill foundation drainage, west-side flood-zone work near the Jordan River
  • Vac truck hydro-excavation — for daylighting unknown utilities in older neighborhoods where Blue Stakes maps don't always match what's actually buried
  • Utility locating — Blue Stakes 811 plus private locates, especially important on properties with century-old layered utility generations
  • Emergency excavation — 24/7 for active main breaks, sewage backups, and burst service lines
  • Commercial excavation — restaurants downtown and on State Street, multi-tenant apartment buildings, the Sugar House commercial corridor

What we don't do at 2 a.m. in your flooded basement

Sell you a full replacement at panic pricing. Emergency dispatch is for stopping the bleed. Full scoping, real quotes, and method comparisons happen in daylight. Honest emergency response is how we keep Avenues homeowners as customers for 20 years instead of one job.
