Overview
What Filtration Actually Solves in Orem
Water filtration is its own conversation, separate from softening. Softening removes calcium and magnesium (the stuff that scales fixtures and shortens water heater life). Filtration removes everything else — chlorine, chloramine, sediment, VOCs, lead, and anything tasting or smelling off. You can need one, the other, or both depending on your situation.
What Orem city water actually has
Orem city water is pretty good — meets EPA standards and tastes fine to most people. Common complaints we hear:
- Chlorine or chloramine taste/smell — the city disinfects with chloramine, which most people can taste. Carbon filtration removes it cleanly.
- Sediment after a city water main repair — temporary, but a sediment filter prevents it from ever reaching your fixtures.
- Hard mineral taste — that's hardness, not contamination. A softener fixes it (see water softener).
Well-water Orem homes (rare but they exist)
A few older properties in the foothills and the Geneva area still pull from private wells. Well water has a totally different filtration profile — iron staining, sulfur smell, sediment, sometimes nitrates or coliform. We test the water first and design filtration based on actual results, not generic packages.
Whole-home vs. point-of-use
- Whole-home filtration ($1,850-$4,500) — installs at the cold-water main entry, filters everything before it goes to fixtures. Best for chlorine taste, sediment, VOCs.
- Reverse osmosis (under-sink) ($650-$1,450) — point-of-use at the kitchen sink. Removes 95%+ of dissolved solids, lead, nitrates, fluoride. Best for premium drinking water.
- Combination ($2,500-$5,500) — whole-home filter for fixtures + RO at the kitchen for drinking. What most premium-conscious Orem homeowners install.
What we install
Pelican, AO Smith, Aquasana, and Rheem on whole-home. APEC, Express Water, and AO Smith on point-of-use RO. We don't push a single brand — we install what fits your water test results, household size, and budget.
Members of our Quality Service Club get 15% off filtration installs and the included annual filter check. Cartridge replacements are not included (filters wear based on water volume, not time).

Warning signs
Signs You Need Filtration in Your Orem Home
Some of these are obvious. Others (like sediment after a city repair) are intermittent — but the right filter handles them all.
Chlorine or chloramine taste or smell from any tap
Sediment particles in water (especially after a city main repair)
Cloudy or discolored water from cold tap
Sulfur or rotten-egg smell (well water)
Iron staining on fixtures, laundry, or sinks (well water)
Discolored ice cubes from refrigerator dispenser
Concerns about lead, nitrates, or chemicals in supply
Water that tastes or smells off, even though it's safe by EPA standards
Live in foothills/Geneva area on private well water

The Process
How an Orem Water Filtration Install Goes

On the truck
Cable machine, jetter, and pipe camera — every call.
Free water test
We test your water on-site for chlorine, hardness, TDS, pH, and (on well water homes) iron and sulfur. Honest results — not a sales pitch. Sometimes the test shows you don't need filtration at all.
System recommendation
Based on the test, we recommend whole-home, point-of-use, or combination. We tell you which one fits your specific water profile and budget. Honest about when a $200 fridge filter solves the problem cheaper than a $2,000 whole-home install.
Install location and bypass
Whole-home filters install on the cold-water main entry, usually in the garage or utility room. Point-of-use RO installs under the kitchen sink with its own faucet. Both get bypass valves so you can isolate the system for service.
Initial flush and quality check
New filters need an initial flush (5-15 minutes of water through). After flush, we test the filtered output to confirm performance. You see the before/after numbers.
Walk-through and replacement schedule
Most filter cartridges need replacement every 6-12 months depending on water volume. We tag the system with the next replacement date. Quality Service Club includes annual inspections (cartridge replacement is separate).
