WHOLE-HOME REPIPING IN OREM — GALVANIZED OUT, PEX-A OR COPPER IN
Most of Orem's housing is from the 60s and 70s, which means a lot of galvanized supply lines rusting from the inside. Brown morning water, dropping pressure, pinhole leaks — we cut a section out, show you what's inside, and let you decide. PEX or copper, flat-rate, permit-pulled.

Overview
When a Repipe Makes Sense in an Orem Home
Orem has the highest concentration of galvanized-supply-line homes in our service area. The 60s and 70s housing boom left thousands of family ramblers in Cherry Hill, Sharon Park, Suncrest, the 1600 N belt, and the Foothill Drive bench with steel supply lines that rust from the inside out. By year 50, the inside diameter of a 3/4" line is sometimes choked down to 1/4". That's why your morning shower has the pressure of a sad garden hose.
Repipe isn't always the answer. Sometimes spot repairs get you another 5-10 years. We'll cut a section of your existing line out, show you what's actually inside the pipe, and walk through the math:
- One pinhole leak in 30 years, decent pressure, no brown water? Spot fix. You're fine for now.
- Multiple pinhole leaks in 12 months, pressure dropping, brown water on first morning draw? Repipe. The math is brutal in your favor — you'll spend more on spot fixes over 5 years than the repipe costs.
- Polybutylene gray plastic from a late-80s/early-90s Orem build? Replace. Polybutylene is on a class-action recall — every joint will eventually fail.
What a repipe actually involves
We replace every supply line in the house — hot and cold from the main shutoff out to every fixture. Drain lines stay (those are usually cast iron or PVC and a different conversation). Most Orem ramblers, 1,400-1,800 sq ft, take 2-4 days. We open drywall in strategic spots, snake new lines through walls/ceilings/crawlspace, pressure-test, then patch. We coordinate the patcher and texturer so you don't have to hire a separate contractor.
PEX vs. copper — what we'd put in our own house
- PEX-A — flexible, freeze-tolerant, 25-50 year life, 30-40% cheaper to install. What we put in our own homes 9 times out of 10. Modern code-approved everywhere in Orem.
- Copper Type-L — 50+ year life, gold standard for some buyers and resale-conscious owners. 40% more expensive on install. Worth it if you're staying forever or selling to a copper-preference buyer.
Members of our Quality Service Club get 15% off the repair side of any spot leak we find while doing the repipe — and a free annual inspection going forward to catch the next thing before it becomes a flood. Property managers — we phase the work to keep tenants in the unit (water back on by end of each day), invoice direct, and don't mark up parts.

Warning signs
Signs Your Orem Home Needs a Repipe
One of these alone isn't a repipe trigger. Three or more in a 12-month window almost always is.
Brown, rusty, or cloudy water on the first morning draw, especially hot side
Water pressure dropping noticeably over the last 1-3 years
Pinhole leaks repaired more than once in the last 18 months
Multiple supply-side leaks in different parts of the house
Galvanized steel pipe visible in the basement or crawlspace (look for grey-rusted threaded pipe)
Polybutylene grey plastic supply lines (1980s-1990s recall-grade material)
Hot water takes a long time to arrive at distant fixtures
Higher-than-normal water bills with no obvious leak
Plans to remodel or sell — buyer inspection will flag old supply lines anyway

60s/70s Orem cohort
Galvanized rusts. Math always wins eventually.
Most homes built between 1960 and 1985 in Orem will need a repipe by their 60th birthday. Better to plan it on your timeline than dig through drywall after a flood.
PEX-A or copper life

The Process
How an Orem Repipe Goes — Day by Day

On the truck
Cable machine, jetter, and pipe camera — every call.
Walk-through and pipe-cut diagnostic
We come out, walk the house, locate fixtures, and (with permission) cut a 4-inch section of your existing supply pipe to show you what's inside. If it's choked with rust scale, you're seeing the problem with your own eyes. Free estimate either way.
Flat-rate quote with PEX vs. copper options
You get one number for PEX-A and another for copper, both itemized — labor, materials, permit, drywall patch, texture match. No surprises mid-job.
Permit and city inspection scheduled
Orem requires a repipe permit. We pull it, schedule rough-in inspection, and final inspection. You don't deal with the city office at all.
Day 1: tear-out and rough-in
We open drywall in coordinated spots (closets, behind vanities, ceiling near each fixture), pull out the old galvanized or polybutylene, and run the new PEX-A or copper. Water back on by end of day in most cases.
Day 2-3: pressure test, inspection, drywall patch
City inspector comes out for rough-in approval. Our drywall crew patches, textures, and matches. Final inspection on the last day. Total downtime in the unit is minimal — most families stay through the whole job.

PEX-A vs. Copper vs. Spot Repair
Three paths. We'll tell you honestly which one fits your situation — including 'do nothing yet' when that's the right answer.
| Feature | Spot Repair | PEX-A Repipe | Copper Repipe |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cost | $285 – $685 per spot | $4,500 – $9,500 | $8,500 – $16,500 |
| Lifespan | 5–10 years before next leak | 25–50 years | 50+ years |
| Best for | 1 leak, otherwise-healthy pipe | Most Orem homes — best value | Long-term-stay or resale-conscious |
| Install time | Half day | 2–4 days | 3–5 days |
| Freeze tolerance | Same as old pipe (poor for galvanized) | Excellent — flexes 3% before bursting | Good — but no flex |
| Resale impact | Neutral — buyer inspection still flags old pipe | Positive — modern, code-approved | Strong positive — premium signal |
